"A safe, albeit very capable, set of honest and very radio-friendly tunes."

Jamie Lawson's debut major label release (on mate and mentor Ed Sheeran's imprint no less) is a safe, albeit very capable, set of honest and very radio-friendly tunes.

Lacking the risks and playful dynamic that Sheeran is all too comfortable taking, Lawson dishes up a plate that is enjoyable yet lacks endurance. Ahead Of Myself is a highlight, boasting an upbeat brass section and gang vocals, along with heartbreaking smash hit Wasn't Expecting That and romcom-worthy The Only Conclusion.

It's a promising release, but seems to lack confidence and venture a little too far into uninventive-present-for-mum territory.
