Album Review: Jackie Onassis - Juliette

Observational and contemplative, Juliette offers an unusually harmonious, understated brand of Aussie hip hop that's strengthened by its infectious pop melodies. Kai Tan's familiar, homey vocals work seamlessly with Raph Dixon's refreshingly restrained beats. More conventionally upbeat tracks like single Special Occasion will have broad audience appeal, however a melancholic undertone is frequently present within their songs. Highlights include gentle (yet bold) opener Said And Done and the expressive Back Home Again, with its rhythmic drum patterns and emotive backing vocals. They play at The Hi-Fi on 7 Mar.
