Jack Dee: An Evening With Jack Dee

Though Dee spends his life scowling, the strength of this show should give him plenty of reason to smile.

Jack Dee's one night only sold out show at The Enmore is a master class in observational stand-up. From the subtlety of his physical performance to the pacing and delivery, Dee hit every mark with material that was sharp and well written. A lot of stand-ups who disappear off to TV land then return to the road can come back with material that seems to have been written in the years they were still touring, but Dee's material, though sometimes heading in an obvious directions, never seemed outdated and was built beautifully into the overall narrative of this show. His piece about giving directions to international tourists is an unexpectedly biting piece of satire about racism, while the song he performs as an encore shows off a surprise knack for a tune. Though Dee spends his life scowling, the strength of this show should give him plenty of reason to smile.
