Album Review: Imogen Heap - Sparks

It can’t all be yelling Taylor Swift lyrics at your cousin’s wedding.

Sometimes pop music is about being taken on a journey. Sparks is a perfect companion. The Beast is your theme song as you wander around a strange, alien world for the first time. The Listening Chair builds to a hypnotic, bumpy crescendo.  Run-Time with its “quit while we’re still friends” refrain is the most accessible moment of the album. Heap’s layered vocals and jarring harmonies give an otherworldliness to her sound. The album’s a journey packed with ghosts, aliens and mystery. And brilliance.
