'Everything Fell Off': The Struggles That Birthed Telenova's New Album, 'The Warning'

Album Review: Ilias - All The Way Up

An album that feels more appropriate for the International Space Station’s playlist than anywhere on Earth

From the suburbs of Sydney comes this latest gift of musical gold from multi-instrumentalist and one-man band Ilias. All The Way Up strikes a unique balance between ambient instrumentalism and Vance Joy/Go-Betweens pop vocals, resulting in an album that feels more appropriate for the International Space Station’s playlist than anywhere on Earth. Strings from Agios Quartet are beautifully interwoven into Jet Glow, while Turn The Clock Back and My Girl With Blue Eyes have unmistakable pop melodies that provide respite from an album that could otherwise become too laden with pretty sounds and lilting lyrics.
