Album Review: How To Dress Well - Care

StarStarStarStar

"R&B was more or less a dirty word only ten years ago. No more."

Care is a triumph. Nothing unexpected about that.

This is the drunken, dreamy, beautiful stuff we've come to expect from Tom Krell, accompanied by one of his now trademark wildly flattering album covers. Can't You Tell opens proceedings with its vital, gospel-inflected magic. Lost Youth/Lost You finds our host thinking he knows what love is now and is utterly compelling. I Was Terrible is surprising; an urgent, pulsing pop gem surrounded by more relaxed, sparse siblings. It's disarming to think R&B was more or less a dirty word only ten years ago. No more. This is a shining, soaring diamond. A must.
