Album Review: Helena Hauff - Discreet Desires

StarStarStarStar

"A flawless vision of retro-futuristic electro."

More Helena Hauff Helena Hauff

An irresistible new talent has announced herself. Hamburg-based DJ/producer Helena Hauff's first album is a flawless vision of retro-futuristic electro.

Hauff's sinful rhythms cut straight through to the hips either side of slower phases, such as the murmuring dark of Sworn To Secrecy, which slowly oozes a seductive kind of menace. There are allusions to the past, such as the occasional, infectious '80s rhythm track, but very little that could be described as nostalgia. Discreet Desires manages to reconcile the sins of the past in an orgiastic future.
