Helen ShanahanContinuing the romantic, nautical themes from her previous album, Driftwood, Shanahan’s latest effort is surely representative of her well-earned sea legs.
The EP begins with a wonderful track, Across The Seas, with a firm grasp on her roots, yet also decidedly progressive. Dead Weight injects a little adrenaline and breaks up the indie songwriter vibe a little with a heavy groove and rhythm and blues sensibilities, like adding the perfect amount of spice to a wholesome meal. And just like a wholesome meal, Shanahan’s heart-warming Extended Play is good for body and soul and highly recommended.
