Live Review: HAVE YOU HEARD: The Otchkies

The Otchkies are a psychedelic four-piece from Northern NSW who describe their genre as "Oriental Psychedelic Blues Hip Pop". We dig...

It's not often you come by a band that makes you feel like you've literally been plucked out of today and thrown straight into an epic era of music, such as the 60's. But that is precisely what THE OTCHKIES do. Transportation abilities aside, this 4-piece from Northern NSW have limitless talents, starting at their intriguing instrumentation and layering. They describe their genre as "Oriental Psychedelic Blues Hip Pop" which pretty much covers it all.

If we had to pinpoint it, they sound like a mix of The Velvet Underground with a twist of Jefferson Airplane. The jangly guitars, drone-filled bass, and echoey vocals are tied together yet not overpowered by the tightly paced drums. Throw in a sitar, and you have The Otchkies.

Whether their music inspires a bohemian dance, or a messed up night covered in a smokey haze; load up the tracks, turn off the lights, and let the tunes sink in.
