"Majestic riffs mixed with tales of bygone battles, pagan gods and epic ventures undertaken by heroic men."

More Grand Magus More Grand Magus

Grizzled power trio Grand Magus have never quite topped 2008's superlative Iron Will but Sword Songs, the band's eighth album, represents yet another consistent set of tunes that will please anyone with even a passing interest in classic heavy metal.

The formula is a familiar one, majestic riffs mixed with tales of bygone battles, pagan gods and epic ventures undertaken by heroic men. There are some detours — a touch of folk, the odd stoner vibe, and of course the doomy approach of the band's formative years but overall if you were a fan of Triumph & Power you'll love Sword Songs.
