For an artist who was once among his culture's most cutting-edge innovators, drum'n'bass/jungle kingpin Goldie really hasn't significantly evolved his style over the years.
Since '90s highlight Timeless, his productions have largely continued to lean on that landmark album's blend of warm soul and cold breakbeats. In that framework, The Journey Man is solid. It's polished, warm, celebratory and kinetic. Spread across two 'discs', there's the standard combination of ballads and faster material. And it's got a sense of space that a lot of contemporary drum'n'bass lacks. But, there's really nothing new on display, just more of the same.
