Album Review: Gallows - Desolation Sounds

Once, Gallows were most noticeable for their jaw-dropping performances.

Ten years on and this is a band that’s become as interesting on wax as they’ve always been on stage. Desolation Sounds highlights everything good about Watford’s finest, in particular their knack of offering up stark musical contrasts. One minute there’s the discordance of Leviathon Rot, the next a hypnotic gentleness in Cease To Exist. Also notable is the menacing yet melodic mid-tempo vibe of tracks like Bonfire Season. The Carter brothers may be gone but Gallows have proven not only adaptable but able to grow and thrive.
