Live Review: Gabriel Garzon-Montano's 'Sour Mango' is tastier than you think

Brooklyn singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Garzon Montano has revealed 'Sour Mango' - the first taste of his forthcoming debut LP, Jardin.

Following up his 2014 EP, Bishoune: Alma Del Huila, Brooklyn music extraordinaire, GABRIEL GARZON-MONTANO has revealed details of his first full-length record. Titled, Jardin, it's set for release early 2017, so to aid anticipation, he's dropped its leading single, 'Sour Mango', to coincide with the exciting news.

Like gas spitting out of a stove top as it chases ignition, a sequence of hand claps introduce the palette of 'Sour Mango'. Abruptly catching its prey, a bassy flame engulfs, and brews a loose concoction of stark drums, watery rainsticks, emotive body percussion and a whimpering violin; mirroring a much more mature set of strings. Quite a range of moods and flavours, it manifests in a runny consistency, yet somehow binds together beautifully.

As the mixture comes to a boil, we welcome a dribbling piano line in its infancy, aiding to both the solid and liquid components of our broth. As far as our composition goes, this is as delicious as it gets, yet the song in its entirety somehow masters the art of spontaneity in its kick and habitual forward motion of perpetual acceleration. Combine Gabriel Garzon-Montano's thick & creamy vocals, offering tender hooks and sweet vulnerability, and you've got yourself a serendipitous serving of primal satisfaction.

'Sour Mango' is the first single taken from Gabriel Garzon-Montano's debut record, Jardin, due for release on Friday, 27th January via hip-hop connoisseurs, Stones Throw.
