"There’s plenty to like, though, especially in the ripping urgency of The Walker and Spark."

The second album from this LA six-piece sees them all but throw out the '60s-inspired soul of 2010 debut Pickin' Up The Pieces as they head in a more pop-inspired direction. Enlisting producer Tony Hoffer (M83), the soul is still there in patches but is somewhat dominated by pounding keys and big pop choruses. There's plenty to like, though, especially in the ripping urgency of The Walker and Spark. Ballad The End builds to a huge finale while the biggest chorus of all is saved for closer MerryGoRound.
