Emilie Simon’s fifth studio album Mue (Morph) has a bewitching sound that spans from tender to ethereal to sensual.
Her voice has a striking quality not unlike Lykke Li, with the romantic sensibilities of Lana Del Rey. The production is lush yet holds a sense of space with its mix of piano, strings, percussion and programmed beats. The Afro-Cuban pull of Encre gets the hips swaying, while Quand Vient Le Jour is a triumph of drama and orchestration. The quieter moments are a beautiful counterpart, like the haunting folk of The Eye Of The Moon sung in English.
