Album Review: Elodie Adams - InSUBORDINATE

StarStarStar

Characterised by cabaret-inspired theatricality, her sound is spiced up with a trudging, industrial backing.

It’s no surprise Born To Love You was picked up for video game Oddworld, as both single and remix flaunt strings-fuelled drama in spades. You can just picture this gothic rocker thrashing out before a harsh, dystopian landscape.

This fantastical, epic tone is propelled throughout the release; Adams’ operatic vocals seemingly born from a dark musical. Characterised by cabaret-inspired theatricality, her sound is spiced up with a trudging, industrial backing. But large instrumental segments, which showcase Adams’ keen, delicate violin playing, give this indulgent clamour-fest a taste of orchestral lightness. She plays The Tote, 28 Aug.
