Sydney band East Of Ely aim in all directions on their debut EP. The first track, Easy Friend, has all the cloud-busting guitar and glockenspiel required for an indie-pop hit – or airline commercial – but never leaves the runway. After the second song, Waterfalls, it's apparent that all that was needed was a falsetto and some massively '80s-sounding synths. Came Without sounds like it's wearing shoulder pads and goes heavier on the retro vibe. Closer Proud is a slow, stargazing affair, drenched in reverb and electronic beats.
