Album Review: Dro Carey - Dark Zoo

StarStarStarStar

"One of the more distinctly inventive, forward-thinking up-and-coming Australian acts of the year."

The latest EP from Sydney experimental electronic producer Dro Carey (aka Eugene Ward) explores a vast array of genres and sub-genres within modern dance music. From the wispy vocals of Kucka in the opening deep house track Queensberry Rules, to the club-ready Dark Zoo and the more techno, European-influenced number Grow Lithe.

The erratic, fast-paced closing track Hidden Halls tops off a very strong EP, and sees Carey take a slightly more industrial approach to his sound — while remaining one of the more distinctly inventive, forward-thinking up and coming Australian acts of the year. Definitely one to watch in 2016.
