Album Review: Dresses - Sun Shy

An obscure name warrants accolades, a memorable title track and demonstrated songwriting ability merits a second listen.

As far as indie-pop records go, Sun Shy isn't what you'd call distinctive. Sure, the duo from the States can carry a tune and they harmonise well, but the integration of the ukulele into modern music has lost its novelty. That aside, the title track is beguiling enough to make you ask, 'Who sings this again?', while Blew My Mind shows lyrical creativity. And when the proverbial cup is overflowing with hackneyed indie-pop bands who seem to think that a synthesiser and an obscure name warrants accolades, a memorable title track and demonstrated songwriting ability merits a second listen.
