"Spending time with DRAM is a joy."
"I had to tell myself to go and get it myself," is the first we hear here.
Hmm. Perhaps. Initially, it's difficult not to think of DRAM as anyone other than a feature on Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book. Quickly, though, we come to understand DRAM's qualities as an individual. The album's first proper song, Misunderstood, is a searing triumph. Intimate stadium rock, the ice-cold soundtrack to a searing hot summer; perfectly enigmatic. Cash Machine deserves its lead billing as a big, woozy banger. Monticello Ave is driving, thrusting, nostalgic. Spending time with DRAM is a joy. Take a moment for this record for real. You'll be rewarded.
