Pennsylvanian psychedelic Americana rock band Dr Dog have been a low-key punching bag for critics for over a decade now, and while their latest offering, The Psychedelic Swamp, will change none of these opinions, it's almost sure to please longtime fans.
The band's ninth album is a more pop-centric reinterpretation of their treasured and hard-to-find debut album of the same name from the turn of the century, with the group's songwriting just as frustratingly absurd as ever. "Circles go around other circles," bassist Toby Leaman sings on Golden Hind. Despite this, the band's bittersweet melodic appeal remains enjoyable, keeping The Psychedelic Swamp a pleasant place to visit; you just wouldn't want to stay there for too long.
