From the opening weep of the pedal steel, the tone is set for Don Henley's first solo release in 15 years.

Cass Country is a gentle, weary and morose effort, not entirely without the occasional upbeat number. Listening to the Eagles drummer/vocalist's album, and comparing it to someone like Jackson Browne's recent releases, it's easy to see that the influences, styles, and probably session musicians permeate those Californian circles. Henley's latest release is nothing terrible, nothing fantastic and a perfectly listenable record. We'll even excuse the cheesy reference to Take It Easy.
