Album Review: DIZZ1 - In Sickness & In Health

2 June 2015 | 2:32 pm | James d'Apice

"This record is more nostalgia piece than game-changer ... Dizz1 is clearly wedded to the sounds of his youth."

This record is more nostalgia piece than game-changer.

Clocks is filled with unexpected rhythmic switch-ups and recalls El-P’s 2002 masterpiece, Fantastic Damage. I Do Me, all monstrous snares and Motley’s North Country contempt, is the sort of rap a generation of us came up with. Everyday Grind hosts the unintentional irony of Aloe Blacc, a chameleon who changes his style with alarming regularity, claiming “this is me!” over and over. Reach Out Or Not sees Sadat X crush a millennial De La Soul beat. Dizz1 is clearly wedded to the sounds of his youth.
