Album Review: De Lux - Voyage

30 May 2014 | 3:34 pm | Guido Farnell

A fantastic Voyage into indie dance that’ll actually get you dancing.

Despite the minimal cover, De Lux's debut is positively maximal. Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco, the talented multi-instrumental duo from LA, have riotously put the disco and funk back into punk with sweetening splashes of '80s pop. Packed tight with melodies and infectious hooks, much of this album feels like a wild full-throttle re-synthesis of the entire DFA catalogue into pop songs. Talking Heads are a constant reference point but Make Space amazingly sounds as if David Byrne had actually collaborated with The Bee Gees. A fantastic Voyage into indie dance that'll actually get you dancing.
