Album Review: Danny Yau - Do You Think We'll Live Here Forever?

StarStarStar

"Yau has a light touch, but, like his beloved suburb, he also has a surprising amount of depth."

Danny Yau's debut solo LP is a starry-eyed love letter to the Inner West.

Your mileage will probably vary depending on what Newtown means to you, but it's important to remember that Yau's stories are of Newtown a decade or so ago, not the hot mess it is now. Do You Think... neatly captures the bright, jangly, perfectly imperfect nature of King Street's gypsy tribes and their environs, and his impressive (inner-city) alt-country song writing is lean, honest, and refreshingly endearing. Yau has a light touch, but, like his beloved suburb, he also has a surprising amount of depth.
