Album Review: Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition

StarStarStarStar

"Either completely original or hopelessly eccentric, depending on who you ask."

More Danny Brown Danny Brown

Danny Brown is either completely original or hopelessly eccentric, depending on who you ask.

His fourth studio album was definitely daunting at first: the title comes from a song by Joy Division, and he reportedly spent $70,000 on samples. But ultimately, you take to the dense soundscapes, and his songs about drugs are funny in a morbid way as usual thanks in largely to his trademark squawk. Above all else this is very dark stuff. Blank Face LP sounds like a Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince Best Of in comparison.
