Album Review: Chuck E. Weiss - Red Beans And Weiss

For some dark, guttural blues, visit Waits’ back catalogue, but give Red Beans And Weiss a miss.

When you announce from the very outset that you've got Tom Waits and Johnny Depp in your corner as executive producers, you'd better bring the goods. Exactly what role either Waits or Depp played in the creation of Red Beans And Weiss is hard to tell. Whatever it was it's not enough to lift the veteran above a pass mark for this record. There's little consistency across the album and Weiss' delivery grates on nearly every track. For some dark, guttural blues, visit Waits' back catalogue, but give Red Beans And Weiss a miss.
