Chris Herbert brings out his second release through Room40 in as many years with Constants, his most contemplative and heartrending thus far.
The slow modulations that invade these ten tracks underpin the juxtaposition between loneliness and comfort that cocooning oneself in ephemeral sound can hold. Constants holds elliptical form throughout, from the sonorous hum punctuated by fidgety electronic beeps of Cinders to the quiet spaces and analogue hiss of Cite Radieuse and the organ being ground down in Zona. The fugue state lullabies of ocean-themed Former Shoreline and Sea Holly further solidifies Herbert’s isolated yet rhythmically wondrous worldview.
