Album Review: Chook Race - About Time

"There aren’t many curveballs thrown here."

Jangle-fried slackers Chook Race may have taken their time getting out their first album, but fans won’t be disappointed.

About Time evokes a trio of friends who are perennially comfortable with each other, so tracks like the slightly frenetic Dentists, the lackadaisical Time and the chugging shuffle of Always On Time nestle together snugly. There aren’t many curveballs thrown here – although the frantic instrumental final third of Good To Me pleasingly rings of early Love Of Diagrams – yet it’s the warm familiarity of somnambulist pop that makes Chook Race shine.
