Nonetheless, it’s an excellent debut from a local talent well worth keeping an eye on.

The bluntness of this album title, the debut from Melbourne-based Chelsea Wilson, belies the subtleties and seductive allure of the whole thing. Funky bass lines and old-school charm permeate the release, which moves between the melancholic, soulful and empowering with ease. What holds it all together is Wilson’s powerful voice, which is perhaps a greater asset than her actual songwriting, which prevents the album from ever truly escaping the label of throwback pop. Nonetheless, it’s an excellent debut from a local talent well worth keeping an eye on.
