"James valiantly charged on to deliver a show that was rich in concept but lacking in execution."
It's so hard to watch a comedian get distracted by unruly patrons. Unfortunately, a pair of shrill, intoxicated punters all but derailed Cameron James' hour, Chilled Out/Fired Up. It was easy to see James getting more and more frustrated with these women as they sat in the front row, talked over his setups, interrupted his punchlines and checked their phones during his set.
James valiantly charged on to deliver a show that was rich in concept but lacking in execution. As he detailed at the top of the hour, he has two voices in his head - one that says 'chill out' and the other that says 'fire up'. This seemed like a brilliant thread for the show, but James rarely touched back on it as he took the audience through stories about his personal trainer, pancakes with bacon and watching open-heart surgery.
It's difficult to judge a show when so much of it is marred by the horribly rude pair up front, but from what was on display Chilled Out/Fired Up was just a little bit damp.
