Album Review: Cage The Elephant - Tell Me I'm Pretty

StarStarStarStarHalf Star

"Clearly the same dandy, psychedelic fuzz that ran rife on its predecessor still floats their boats."

More Cage The Elephant Cage The Elephant Profile

Steady output is a good quality in a good band — and quality output is even better.

Bluesy, funk-pop-rock sons Cage The Elephant must have still been riding the touring highs of 2013's Melophobia when Tell Me I'm Pretty was just a twinkle in the eye, and clearly the same dandy, psychedelic fuzz that ran rife on its predecessor still floats their boats. Mess Around is one of the album's flagbearers for its rampant, brassy rock, Too Late To Say Goodbye's sombre noodling envelopes, Cold Cold Cold dons retro threads with tambourine and organ galore, and Matthew Schultz's Kentucky twang is never better than on blissed-out chiller Trouble.
