Busdriver is dichotomous. For every insane mess there is a gem. Perfect Hair is no different.

Retirement Ode, Busdriver par excellence, is a crunchy instrumental with BD’s meandering atonal, arrhythmic raps over it. The beat’s infectiousness balances out our host’s so-bad-it’s-good aesthetic. Aesop Rock opens Ego Death with “Yeah... But is it sexier than torture?” This adolescent faux controversy is handled by BD adroitly. He quickly converts the controversial to the attractive. Upsweep is a resonant emo-pop number. End to end, this album is a confronting piece of post indie rap. Part immediate and immersive; part acquired taste.
