Album Review: Bon Chat, Bon Rat - Burning Palms

StarStarStar

Burning Palms is the kind of EP that catches you in an unexpected eddy hidden below a glassy surface.

The nine-track EP from Sydney duo Bon Chat Bon Rat is a lot to take in, but the gritty soundscapes of Burning Palms are no struggle to listen to. The electronic thump of lo-fi bass distortion and kaleidoscopic melodies etch a pattern across your brain, while drawn-out, ambient chords swirl in between the tracks. There’s a distinct sense of pressure throughout, a tense and unsettling atmosphere that is marred only slightly by static vocal lines. Burning Palms is the kind of EP that catches you in an unexpected eddy hidden below a glassy surface.
