"Her quirkiness brings the show to life."

More Becky Lucas More Becky Lucas

Giggling as she introduced herself to the audience from backstage, Brisbane comedian Becky Lucas graced the stage in skinny jeans smiling nervously. Lucas looks innocent but once she opens her mouth she delivers funny punchlines thick and fast, as well as hilarious stories, like one about having sex with a backpacker and sharing an Airbnb with a controlling Vietnamese couple. "What did you expect? The show is called Little Bitch," Lucas giggles as she explains how she is a lazy feminist and how some of her female friends don't like the name of the show, as it's demeaning to women.

Despite have many performances of this show under her belt, at Adelaide Fringe, MICF and Sydney Comedy Fest, it seemed like Lucas was uncertain at several points, taking pauses between jokes to breathe and think about what came next. With her hand shielding her from the blinding stage lights, Lucas searched the crowd when she asked if any single men wanted to come up? A little awkward when no one wanted to respond, no one had the guts to help her out.

Lucas just brushed things off with "Okay that's cool," as she continued to her next story. Her quirkiness brings the show to life, however the crowd didn't respond to her material as much as she would have liked. It felt like only one-third of the room was laughing; maybe it just wasn't their type of comedy.
