Album Review: Asgeir - Afterglow

StarStarStar

"Asgeir keeps himself accessible by reaching towards a certain positive optimism."

More Asgeir Asgeir

Although music from Iceland tends to come with its own icy windswept aesthetic, Asgeir produces a polished indie-pop sound that brings to mind Bon Iver tinkering with a laptop or James Blake embracing some warmth.

The beats are broken and there is a greater concentration on introducing the whir of electronica into the mix of his second album. Tending toward melancholy, Asgeir keeps himself accessible by reaching towards a certain positive optimism. Lyrical contributions from his dad, a renowned poet, rounds off this evocative album. Just stay away from the cigarettes as you bask in the Afterglow.
