Album Review: Anubis - Hitchhiking To Byzantium

"Despite the usual pedestrian segments that plague most prog releases, it's a fairly adept piece of production"

Progressive seven-piece Anubis are an interesting prospect, rising from the creative, cinematic depths of Sydney duo Robert James Moulding and David Eaton.

This is their third album and, despite the usual pedestrian segments that plague most prog releases, it’s a fairly adept piece of production. Tightening Of The Screws and the title track are the more pretty but plodding songs and Dead Trees could’ve been a bit kinder to Moulding’s raw vocals, but musically there are rhythmic twists and turns to lap up on Partitionists and the flagship guitar shred on A Room With A View.
