On Broken Folks, Atkinson showcases a rare quality – the ability to cut deep.

A constantly moving collection of folk-pop standards, the band stays mostly out of it this time, leaving Atkinson room to speak directly to the listener. Chances are his brilliant vocal melodies will have you so on-board that by the time standout track, The Lake, rolls around and he begins to yell, you’ll run through past conversations in your head, trying to work out what you did to make Atkinson mad. ‘Woe is me’ he opines; ‘Wow’, you reply.
