Anne Edmonds: That's Eddotainment!

StarStarStarHalf Star

"While her character work is delightful, her real knack is for the throwaway line, the subtle aside or the barely there eye-roll."

Anne Edmonds is smart enough to know that if she's going to talk about uncomfortable topics like ISIS and the objectification of women in modern society she should probably also dish up a few jizz jokes. This Friday night crowd doesn't totally buy it all though.

There are moments when the audience sounds like they're gasping for breath but they're not always along for the ride as Edmonds skewers everyone from duck-facing Instagrammers and Australian patriot organisations to, more often than not, herself. Despite the laughter lulls, Edmonds' delivery is pitched just right. And while her character work is delightful, her real knack is for the throwaway line, the subtle aside or the barely there eye-roll that give her unusual observations a little bit of extra flavour. If Edmonds is able to tighten this show up so it clocks in right on the hour then she'll really have something to carry audiences all the way through. As it is, there are already some killer moments here and it will be an exciting wait to see what Edmonds comes up with next.
