Album Review: Amorphis - Under The Red Cloud

"There are very few misses in their two decades of largely hits."

More Amorphis More Amorphis

It feels like every other year Finnish melodic metallers Amorphis release an album.

Well, they pretty much do and there are very few misses in their two decades of largely hits. Under The Red Cloud is no exception, opening in their all-guns-blazing style on the title track, with dramatic ivory tinkles and Tomi Joutsen's pristine vocal. The Four Wise Ones ramps up the aggression while Death Of A King's melodic lines are lush. Production is tight on the multi-layered, time-changing Bad Blood and The Skull, yet interest wavers during back-end tracks like Sacrifice and Dark Path.
