Liverpudlian trio All We Are were all sunshine and upbeat indie pop on their 2015 debut.
But Sunny Hills largely flips that notion ironically on its head with some deeper, poetic lyricism and an edgier tone than their former cheery gems. Singles Animal and Human yield that intensity via textural motifs, lots of reverb and affected vocals. That interesting approach to vocals are courtesy of each and every member and some tracks shine brighter than others because of it — Dreamer's breathy take from bassist Guro Gikling stands taller than Waiting's more spoken word vibe, for example, but overall it's a fun and absorbing listen.
