Like NOFX, but without the fun.

Putting eight songs to tape hasn’t sounded this much fun since the Frowning Clouds kicked off the mid-‘60s rock revival.

The highlights of this record clearly showcase why Stars are such a great band, and it is mint to see that they have worked on the problems from their past album to create something far stronger and more enjoyable.

The sweary slackness remains, but the most shocking thing about The OF Tapes Vol. 2 is that it’s good.

They don’t care if we think they’re stuck in a time warp, and you wouldn’t care either if you were having this much fun.

There’s an almost drunken swagger to the Portland group this time, and despite Moms’ overarching theme of loss, they still sound ok with everything, and have produced their most upbeat record to date.

Mundane second effort.

The musical swagger is still there.

A little sadder but much more mature.
