This self-consciously cocky attitude sums up the record – it’s brilliant, it’s fun, it’s playfully arrogant and even if it does err a little close to what we know, there’s little arguing against a groove this strong.

The album lags a bit in the middle with some slower material that is more akin to Cornell’s solo work, but this is still one seriously strong return to the scene.

It’s undoubtedly organic music, without studio spit and polish, yet somehow that conveys authenticity, and as a result you wouldn’t want it any other way.

Nextlevelism is a welcome digression from the repetitious junk that’s currently doing the rounds.

Which is kind of the key to the mix: not huge names but the combination of great tunes and percussive repetition create this incredible hypnotic and at times out-of-body experience.

Too early to completley move outside the square.
