On Ready To Die’s Job, when Pop sings of having a “job, but it don’t pay shit” you feel like telling him that he should wipe away his tears with the excess of loose skin hanging from his torso and arms.

If Avery and co. can stay focussed on this endeavour for long enough to gain some momentum, he may well have something pretty special on his hands.

Sub Verses then plays like a schizophrenic idiot savant; ideas are spewed forth at rapidfire speeds, seemingly without nuance or reason at disparate ends of the spectrum.

While there’s not a lot of rock’n’roll going on, this is undoubtedly an album for the arenas: huge singalong pop hooks and beats and riffs to get blood pumping.

More Light is the group’s best, probably since XTRMNTR, but it still falls short of their own high standards, set an increasingly long time ago.

At its best, it’s seductive, gorgeous and the ideal backing to a nice drink with close company. It’s just a shame it occasionally falls into cliché and background 1950s theatre music.

If there was a fault to Hex.Lover.Killer, it would be the lack of variety – but with a sound that has been so cautiously perfected, it can hardly be considered a flaw to perpetuate such quality.
