There are certainly moments where the acoustic/synth/sporadic guitar riff combo gel well with Keith’s steady vocal, though on a whole When It Was Now just feels quite plain.

A great love story told in deep pink-cloud synths, Afropop rhythms, and rainbow harmonies, Jinja Safari is a shining, scorching, bursting album that has so much to give it can barely contain itself.

The title track provides light relief as it drifts like clouds in the sky. A dreamy trip of an album that finds the Lips exploring their more introspective side.

It was a long wait for the debut album, but so very worth it.

For the most part, Save Rock And Roll is a bold and audacious step forward for a great pop outfit.

Who knows if Parquet Courts can keep this tone up for a long career, but if you buy into Light Up Gold, for 33 minutes it’s damn near all you’ll ever want to hear.

While Hanging Gardens is not as impressive as its first single would have us think, there are addictive grooves and a minimalistic yet complex production to the record that makes it a definite worthwhile listen.
