Fanning is no stranger to success and failure and this album sees him back on track with an album he obviously has enjoyed recording. Whether the songwriter finally makes a mark overseas is another question.

The genius of Totale Night is how finely tuned and balanced these incongruent elements are, and the end result is a delight to behold.

It’s a solid local release, holding a sunny disposition that’s perfect for a mid-June pick-me-up, and serves as a very promising indication of things to come.

Deleted Scenes personifies dark intent and purpose, made for headphones, an immersion into a seductive silence.

Disclosure do their thing with ease and they do it very well. The hype is warranted for now.

Just about every instrument is thrown into mix for show-stopping finale Coast Is Clear, horns blasting and guns blazing no doubt, and the best element of all is hearing Steve’s natural singing voice stretch above his derisive drawl.

Lyrics are much as expected, and it will be up to the listener to draw their own thin line marking the point where emotion ends and platitudes begin.

It’s the angst-filled, heartfelt pop anthems that really bring this album home.
