The Argument resounds as a triumph of heady, ethereal alternative rock.

There is talent here – let’s hope that with time to reflect and grow up, album number two hits some higher peaks.

It feels like a genuine album, and the stories are well-written and performed, but if there’s one weakness, it’s that they’re not very personal

As an ambient wash, it works well; but as a stand-out pop statement, there’s little to grasp onto here.

Perhaps now quite a different band to the one that Tommy Lee once liked to listen to in a foetal position, Sigur Rós seem to have entered an entirely new phase of their recording career.

Mostly though, this album sounds like an escape, like pure white light and warmth and, while listening may not quite transport you to a different world, it definitely makes this one a little softer around the edges.
