It’s not a Springsteen classic and there aren’t any great surprises, but it’s good enough to keep the fans happy.

A promising start.

Their single Praxis Dub explodes with massive drops, combined with mellow yet uplifting sounds from outer space that evidently show live recording does wonders in the dub realm.

An album to rival Hello Hurricane.

There are some high points (Losing Teeth, Zoltar Speaks) and there’s no doubt that they’ve got the chops, what with strong vocal harmonies and riffs, but it’s all been done; there’s nothing to take away.

Vocalist Stu Block remains at his shrieking best but if you’re looking for the soaring epics that marked Dystopia you won’t find them here.

Don’t be fooled by Mogwai’s penchant for playful titles as there are still guitars, noise and ambient charm aplenty across Rave Tapes: just be prepared for a complex, dynamic, thinking man’s kind of rave.
