Album Review: A G E N D E R - Fixations

15 July 2014 | 4:37 pm | Andrew McDonald

"The ideas and sounds blend together by the record’s end, but it’s still a damn worthwhile listen."

Sustained synth tones and throbbing bass lines choke virtually every second of Fixations, the second album from A G E N D E R.

The sounds couldn’t be further from frontwoman Romy Hoffman’s ‘main’ project, Macromantics, yet her elusive presence is just as strong here, just used to entirely different effect. The songs, largely dealing with gender and societal issues, shimmer and fuzz, recalling New Order in tone and impression. The ideas and sounds blend together by the record’s end, but it’s still a damn worthwhile listen for any electro post-punk fans.
