Album Review: 750 Rebels - Kold Heart

"It’s contemptuous. It’s grimy. It’s a throwback."

Treat reactionary Australian rap fans with caution. No matter how hard they worked on compiling their vinyl collection, the argument that the scene was in better shape 12 or 13 years ago is not really worth entertaining. Sometimes, though, it’s nice to be reminded of that simpler age.

Kold Heat, driven by Lazy Grey’s fire and Jake Biz’s substance-over-style delivery, is proper, beer-breath-on-the-mic, loud man rap; the sort of rap that drinks out of brown bottles in brown paper bags and paints words on trains. It’s contemptuous. It’s grimy. It’s a throwback. And, sometimes, that’s just the sort of thing we need to hear.
